He will have to send the bank draft to you, You will send the balance back to me when you have deducted your deposit, this will take care of my flight ticket and other necessary arrangements before coming. Well i need the name as you want it to appear on the draft, the address to send it and your phone number. Bank draft sent within your country will clear instantly, but it does take much more longer time to clear here in UK”

This is a classic “419″ cashier’s check overpayment fraud. The scammer sends you a fake check for an amount greater than required. They ask you to deposit the check and wire to them the excess funds. A few weeks later your bank will come back to you to say the check was bad and you then owe the bank the entire amount. Meanwhile, the scammer has made off with the money you sent.

At this point most scam artists have become obvious to me. First of all, most of them have no idea what punctuation is. No periods, commas or question marks = no sale from me! However, I’ll turn the table on them. I have the address of my local FBI. I know they are going to send a bogus check. So I let them send it there… to the FBI. If they are legit, they have nothing to worry about. If it’s a scam… well, Im sure they will be getting a knock on the door from some suits. Either way, I seem to be getting a lot less “Dr. Kevin Brody’s” that speak broken english and are uneducated in english diction.

I’m guessing that the poor woman who they disguised themselves to be when in contact w/ me, was just another victim like most of the names on the list above.

I was just scammed with the whole My wife and I are on a mission trip in West Africa and we dont care about the money, all we want is a person with good moral standing to take after our house while we are gone.
I reallllly believed it because he said he was a pastor. But i was stupid to believe it because it was a beautiful 2 bedroom apartment in the middle of Boston for less than 700 a month with all utilities, wayy too good to be true. He even called my cell phone from an overseas number and he had a strong accent. cant wait for that phone bill.

When she failed to provide the proof of property of the appartment and wanted me to send money by Western Union, I googled her and I found the list of scrammers lurking in the craiglist!!! I almost fainted but I am grateful that I found out before; so watch out you all.

Both emails sent to me as responses had a similar structure. price of the rent, need someone they can trust, the documents and keys will be shipped, no one will be there to greet you in Paris, and a deposit required that is larger than the rent amount.
The second guy even called me and when I looked up his country code, the call was made from Nigeria.

I think i had few emails from these persons for an appartment in Paris, but they had other names and another story. But the language is the same, and the guy told me to email his wife too and bla bla bla . I knew directly it was a scam. His story was about being a preacher and getting a transfer to Africa (transfering a Preacher??) and that his wife had an accident and bla bla bla .. same language, I am up to 95 percent sure they are the same. Hi Joya, please report the scam about Ernest Olivier / Lionel Doyen to the French police. This is the same person, he scammed more than 40 people during the summer 2007. He’s been in jail since december 2007 and been judged guilty in October 2008.
I don’t know how he made it to send emails and answer to adds recently, because he is in jail.
So I guess he must have a accomplice outside.
I think the French police should be informed. They should be able to find the case if you mention his two names.

Just lost $600 to Bernd. He offered to rent me an apt in Paris for 850 euros a month! He emailed me two references and called me in person. After I sent the money he was supposed to FedEx the keys to me. When I didn’t receive the tracking number I called him, but his telephone was canceled. DO NOT SEND THIS PERSON ANY MONEY!!!!

Yeah, I just found out that I’m the latest victim. Ferrari Stephany Jose totally scammed us out of several hundred Euros. Her fake story involved a dead father, a mother in London, and a lawyer in Spain. She was completely cordial and nice via email and had perfectly believable, nice photos of her flat. I can’t believe this happened, but it did.

I just sent the deposit of 200 euro to Olivan. I had no idea he is a scammer. He did confirm that he received the deposit, but, he had not send the certificate of reservation as he promised.
Any suggestions? How did you find out he is a scammer? His phone does work though.

Hi all of you,
The best you can do is go to the French police, the station nearest to the apartment he tried to rent to you. And explain them everything. Give them copies of the emails, the paper from the bank proving you paid, etc…
Give them the old “name” and the new one, they’ll make the connexion, I’m sure of it.

The story about his life is the same Emma copied/pasted…..he even sent me a picture of himself. What happened to him when he was judged? At the end of the day, we can say it is almost impossible to rent a flat in Paris from distance……

I’ve been emailing her about an apartment for 500 euros a month in the St. Germain area and her emails are almost identical to Ernest Olivier’s email that is mentioned on this forum. How disappointing! I leave for Paris in a couple weeks and I need to find an apartment!

Olivan Eneste is a true scammer. He just took my friend’s deposit of 200 Euro and could not deliver what has been promised. He jerked her around by agreeing to return her money.
But, he refused to wrie or send the money (in cash through express mail) back but would only give her money back if she meets him in Paris somewhere.
He also created an email address as his reference – yuki.yamoto@yahoo.com

Price for the room:
I live in a 3 bedroom flat where i am leasing 2 bedrooms out because my flatmates have just finished their internship few months back and i am tired of staying alone, so I need responsible and fun to be with people as flatmates and as friends. The two bedrooms i have for rent both have double sleeper twin bed and the price is 350Eurosexcluding utilities.. However,for utilities which includes:water,gas refill,electricity
bill,laundry,parking space and internet charges as well and there are lots more which are not included amounts 50Euros including council tax as well So the total to pay monthly is about 400Euros including utilities charges.
Being a first timer in my flat, a security deposit of 600Euros from you as requested by my mother which is to serve as a guarantee of safety of my room either in my presence or absence, which is refundable at the end of your stay in the room if nothing was destroyed either by you or any of your guest who might come in the future. I can offer to rent for weeks if that’s what you want as a short rent. I can rent the room for a long term lease but I will prefer a 3 months contract so we can be able to get to know ourselves better and after which the contract is renewable monthly or for a longer period.
Immediately I confirm your interest and knowing some things about you, I shall send to you the current pictures of your room and my flat in general with the kitchen and other pictures as well before we proceed with the necessary details to prepare the tenement contract necessary for your move in.

Rent amount:
However the rent again per month is 350Euros + utilities of 50Euros = 400Euros is to be paid just once at the beginning of every month and a security deposit 600Euros, which is refundable at the end of your stay in the room. The 600Euros which Will be refunded to you is for a security deposit and it has to be refunded back at the end of your stay and i believe you will not destroy anything in your room. The total amount for you to pay as a first timer is 1,000Euros, whereby 600Euros is refundable to you if at the end of your stay if nothing was destroyed as agreed in the room by either your or any of your invited guests. Like I also told you, there are only two rooms vacant for rent in my flat where we shall share only the living room, the kitchen, while you have your private entrance, room, bathroom and toilet. Here is a message a from user that has been scammed:
“I have just been scammed by someone calling themselves “Jane Timi”. It was quite simple, she answered an ad
for a room I had in Calgary, Alberta, then said she was sending a deposit. However, the deposit didn’t come, so she
emailed and said her mum was sick but that the deposit was coming by messenger.
A cheque arrived about the same time she told me her Mum had died and that the agent that sent the cheque had
made a mistake and sent me all her money instead of the deposit and could I please send the balance to her so
she could pay for the funeral and her plane ticket.
I waited 5 days for her cheque to clear (the bank told me 3 days) then I sent her the balance. after another 5 days
the cheque came back as counterfeit. ”

Well, you can ad another name to the “scammers” – Sean Curties. He bought a house in Olympia, but had to go to his mother’s funeral in England. He is a businessman who wants someone to stay in his home free to watch it while he is doing business oversees. He wanted us to send him $50 (and another time $100) so he could send us FEDEX the keys to look at the house. And he wanted us to clean his home for him. We are “housesitters” and felt uncomfortable sending the money. And cleaning his house before we moved in? I don’t think so. He had an “accent” in his emails, so we knew he was not from England but from another country. SCAM! His email is lifeistooshort@rocketmail.com

“Damien Michel” and “Tom Sim” have ads in the Jerusalem, Israel section of Craigslist, offering to rent a one bedroom apartment in Jerusalem. There are pictures on the adverts, which change from time to time. Upon inquiry, they respond with a “rental application”, and say that they live in England. If one is interested, they ask that you wire funds to them in England. After, they will ask their wives in Atlanta, Georgia to send you the keys. They do not have a local representative.

I really feel for all who got played by the scammers.
There are signs in the ads that give it away as a scam. For example, the scam will cite two areas in the ad that geographical is impossibly correct. Thus one who knows paris well would understand the ad to be a trap.
I travel a lot and craigs is where I go for rentals.
And I always pass the ad to a friend or contact who knows the particular city. Thus these scams can be avoided by verifying the location mentioned or cited, its geographical location to the city and never give ALL the money upfront. I can be of help to anyone who asks. Though I never got scammed, these scammers are scum.

One of my foreign friend was victim by Ernst Olivier, she gives him some money for a diposit.but after sending the money, he told us the appartement have some problem and he asks us to send him more money to fix it !!
After thousand of mails with him to ask him he refund us, we know, after reading all what is writting here, we never my friend’s moeny back.
What can we do ?
I want to go to french police and to try to do something… but what.
I ask you help, could you reply me in english or french

Sorry to hear about your friend getting scammed. You’re right, there’s no way to get the money back. But you should definitely report the scam to the police, even if they can’t do much.

I can advise you not only to contact the French police (they got quite many cases already on the same apartment- go to the Préfecture de Police in 14 Rue de l’Abbaye, 75006 Paris or in general to the police office where the apartment is located and where they know the whole story already), but also the police of the country of the bank you had the deposit sent to- because the police there might start investigation on the abuse of the bank account on that side. I additionally contacted the police of the country of my own bank and just for information the consulate of my country in Paris, too.
Probably too late, but it may be possible (for those who realize the scam quickly enough) to induce transfer-abort and to get the money back directly from the scammer’s bank; reporting to the bank of the scammer about abuse is another asset. That would be all you can do
! BTW to all: the scammer is lurking on these websites, too, checking about how to disguise themselves better. The idiot had contacted me (on a different scammer-aware-site) with another fake email account and tried to persuade me not to go to police- to negotiate etc. Bullshit! Go to the police, do all you can do to get them all busted !

Oh o my I can’t believe I fell into 2 scam artist their names are SErENa DICKNEY , N AZABI GODWIN. Serena story will burn in he’ll for using God to do her dirty work what was said she does not work she’s a Christian missionary from Nigeria she could not pay for the shipping of a puppy she posted to be free, but shipping was included of$150 after we talk for weeks she earn my trust, so I headed to western union and sent $150 asap. The following day she says”there’s a slight problem the aiport needs more money of an amount of$500, so I refused to pay that amount, nevertheless I thought she didn’t have money in the first place, she responded she paid $270 toward the shipping all I need to sentnow $230 from there I knew I just got con. She constantly keep lessening the price until she said I can send $100 she paid the rest. So I am not a fool to fall for her twice I would rather lose $150 than losing $250 or $650. In July I sent Olivan Eneste 200 euros as a deposit and was unable to travel but he promised to return it and has been putting it off ever since. I have the deposit slip and his e-mails full of promises. Is there anything I can do? I live in Mexico.

The monthly rent for each of the room is 500 euros and a

1. The Tenant Will Pay a month Rent and Security Deposit in Advance to the Landlord Before Moving in to

Tenant and the return of funds must be completed not later than 2 days of the termination of the Contract.
2.Due to the fact that the I am presently out of Paris, I will love to tell you that i will only be available for the
viewing of the contract after we have both signed a contract documents and also
confirm your deposit payment which is payable via western union money transfer.
3.The Tenant’s must agree that they and their respective invited visitors will not :
i. Commit any act, which results in serious disruption of the rights of each to peacefully Occupy the premises
ii. Commit any act, which results in physical harm to the parties, a member of her household, visitors or
neighbors
iii. Cause or allow invited visitors to cause a nuisance.
iv. Commit any form of harassment on the grounds of race, color, religion, sex, sexual
orientation, age or disability, which may interfere with the peace
and comfort of, or cause offense to, each other, a member of her household, visitors or
neighbors.
v.. Play or allow to be played any radio, television, record or tape recording or musical
instrument so loudly that it causes a nuisance or annoyance to the other party.
(b) Use of Premises: The Tenant agrees to use the premises for residential purposes and
not to operate a business at the premises nor to use the premises for any illegal
purposes.
(C)Both the Landlord and tenants must exchange passport id for easy recognition and for both parties to have
a good idea of eachother.
