Watch out Vancouver, BC, Canada – the same tricks (and even the exact format of “certificate of ownership” with the signatures reversed) was used to try to rent out and apartment on West 4th Avenue while they claimed to be on a mission to help children in China.
Same scam in Honolulu on Craigs List from Chris Jensen – chris.jensen62@yahoo.com. Googled and he had apt for rent in Binghamton NY too. This guy had to go to W, Africa because he ” bid for a portion of petroleum land sometimes ago in West Africa” had same certicate of ownership – but had different owner and seller names. The signatures didn’t match but are the same as on original posters certificate; I’ve been stringing this scumbag along for about 3 wkswhile he’s tring to push me to send $800 via Western Union.

Hey everyone, I am so glad me and my other half did our research before committing to this yet again scammer on craigslist. We are re-locating to Hawaii for work and we came across this add that seemed too good to pass up. It was for a 1 bedroom for 575.00 on 411 WALINA ST, HONOLULU, HAWAII. We started communicating with a Barry Coleman who claimed he is on a mission trip in Africa and that we would need to contact his wife Julie Coleman. As we started communicating via email we noticed the grammar was very poor and were very unsure about the whole situation. Like many of you, we recieved the same application and was approved immediately with a fake home ownership certificate. Thank goodness for Google because I was able to locate the address which is a supermarket and the certificate was a exact match online. The only difference was that they put Mr & Mrs. Coleman and flipped the signature around. We definitely would like to take matters to the law but are not sure of how to. We are very happy to post this online so that many of you do not fall into these scammers tricks and are well aware of what to expect. Please please please be careful and it is always best to see the rentals in person and deal with someone directly. Do not get fooled and always do your research. Take care and thank you for your postings. It definitely helped us not to make the mistakes that I am sure many have run into. Be careful and be safe out there.

More specific info on the web about these scammers will help prevent other people from getting ripped off by them.

They tried to have me lease out an apartment they owned and everything was fine, they didnt ask for ANY bank account numbers or ssn. They just wanted someone to take care of their one bedroom apartment (furnished) in Long Beach, because they had to go to china for the husband’s job.
It got sketchy when they didnt have a bank account for me to wire them money to, and I wasnt going to go through Western Union with no paper trail.
The woman even gave me a copy of her ‘passport’.
I realized it was too good to be true when I called the apartments at the address they gave and found out that you cant own an apartment with them, you can only lease.
They were only asking for first months rent and security deposit so I figured they were an honest couple or the dumbest scammers ever.
Guess they’re retarded.
I just fell or these same people too, thank god i looked them up!

I then searched for both Barry and Julie Coleman on publicdata.com (I work for a law firm, so thank goodness for all the resources) and the search yielded no results.
