Have wasted a day (but thankfully no money) talking to scammers from Craigslist in my search to find a flat in Paris.
You may want to add these guys to your list. The ones that weren’t smart enough to use the untraceable gmail, I all traced back to Nigeria.
The majority offered too good to be true prices on flats, stated they were working abroad on contract work (China and London) and would send the key to me in the post or claimed to be religious people.
Many also specified that tragedies had taken place in their life – the flat belonged to his/her deceased parents etc.
ALL 100% con artists. I hope this message helps someone, perhaps doing a search for a name or email address.

My name, Marlène DORGNY, is used by scammers (as you can see in a message below)
They send my passport scan. They have it because 2 years ago, I was a victim of that scammers: I sent my passport scan + money for a flat in NYC.
I went twice to the police, but they closed the affair: they said: we can’t find the scammers because they use a lot of e-mail adresses, in different countries…The police can’t find IP address, and “there is not enough money to do international investigation” (what they said)
I receive messages via Facebook, I always answer to that messages, and I try to write everywhere I can, DON’T RENT A FLAT TO “MARLENE DORGNY”, THIS IS AN ABUSED IDENTITY.
So, never send your passport scan, it will be used for abusing people

Here are the scammers who contacted us (in just 2 days!). Renters beware!
Tyan B is offering a 2 BR apt across the street from the Louvre for 50Euros/night. Too good to be true? It is! Claims to be working in London on a job contract and wants money sent via western union. AVOID!!

You only can go to the police, if there is any problems, they will know somebody is abusing your identity thanks to the declaration you will do.
Nothing more to do. And no chance they find the scammers. As the police told me: “you know, it happens so often…we can’t do anything….”
I know they’re abusing my identity, so I try to leave messages on the websites, saying, becareful, this is a scam, don’t answer to that”

This email holler_76@yahoo.com belongs to one scammer please be careful . I just placed a post looking for a place in amsterdam and the strategy consist in asking always “if you are really interested…” and then they start to ask for personal information about what you do and so on nothing suspicious in the beginning. But they try to delay their answer in order to gain interestand attention from the victim (it in response to my post at craiglist amsterdam looking for a flat).
Another scammer is Rose Robert roserobert05@gmail.com, the strategy is quite similar, arguing to be in London for a course attendace in order to skip a personal appointment

Christophe, I received exactly the same email as you described here from Adolfo Balaque but with a different email address and accomodation offered in Amsterdam. I got his passport (deleted it) but perhaps he is using this and his real name might be totally different.
I still receive other offers for accomodation in Amsterdam. Here are other email addresses of which I think are alos scams.

I had a problem with one of the mentioned above, just_maria1989@yahoo.com. Is a frauder too. I paid for nothing and she got a scanned copy of my passport so now probably he/she will use it to scam other people…
I feel so angry and impotent… I just hope not many people’ll be scammed with my identity…

Sometimes, it’s not too late, sometimes it is….some people think, as I’m Marlene Dorgny, I have a way to find their money via Western Union, and send them back….but there is nothing I can do; the police closed my file twice, and I don’t know how many time they will use my identity….

I did’t post nothing to them, only a reply of the e-mail because i was intrested. I hope this people will have in the future the returning back of what they have done.

I also put an ad out for Apartment Wanted on Craigslist, and got 2 responses from a Maria Johanna (also known as Maria Simons), at email addresses: juust_maria1989@yahoo.com, mariasimons20@yahoo.com.
and a Happel Anatasia (ana_hap_81@yahoo.com), both writing their emails with bad grammar and very similar introductions and info. The thing that gives it away is why are they telling me how old they are and where they are from. Not to be rude, but I really don’t care when renting a place for a short time period. Plus, they have horrible grammar and do not seem to pay attention to my questions. See examples below:

hey.. yes this is a scam mail. I can assure you this is exactly an email i received from a scammer (maria johana).. exact same words from a different email adress. When I proposed to visit the flat.. they stopped writing to me.

looked fishy so i did a property search in it and came up with a reacent list of forclousers and bankrupsies from a local paper like this i will remove the names to protect the people this happend to.

I thnk actually they tried to scam a student of mine 6 months ago, it’s exactly the same story – a reverand, working in CHina, was giong to send keys by post … she offered that I go and get the keys personally and then it fell through.
I am living in paris but was looking for something new; I thought the story sounded similar, and the guy’s english was not very good but not French either…
I had doubts about them and googled their name and found your website; I am sure it’s a scam too. Don’t negotiate with them, just get out of there.

they said they had a house to rent by me. all i had to do was send them the money. never did my bofriend said not to glad he did. they were supposedly in nigeria on a mission trip
